再生可能エネルギー, why?

Green Sun iconAs a result of increasing the prices of fossil fuels in the recent years, especially for oil and natural gas, have as well increased the attention to the alternative energy, which is addressed renewable energy. Renewable energy means energy generated from renewable or natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat. Renewable energy has the capacity to replenish itself (by nature replenished). Renewable energy is also called as infinite energy since it derives from the sun as infinite resource. Renewable energy is also called as green energy because it does not produce toxins or pollutants that are harmful the environment.

The utilization of renewable energy is not new because it has been in use for thousands of years for example of using wind for sailing and wind mill. These are simply the most common forms of renewable energy, though there are many more sources of renewable energy on the planet. Below is a list of renewable energy sources:

Hydro energy: also called as hydro power, means converting the mechanical energy of water into electrical energy. The disadvantage to hydro power is the cost to the surrounding environment, as land upriver needs to be flooded, and land downriver will be drained during construction. This can have fatal effects for wildlife and life in the rivers. Hydroelectric power is now advancing in popularity when it comes to serving as a renewable energy source. Hydroelectric power functions through the flooding of a valley by building a dam. Rainwater is captured and allowed out through turbines that use generators to convert the energy into electricity. Primary advantages of this renewable energy are that no fuel is required and there are minimal running costs.

Solar energy: can be somewhat unreliable depending on the placement, location, and surrounding environment of the solar cells. The greater the solar energy supply, the more effective the cells will be, even so, the more heat a solar panel receives, the more unreliable it can be.

Solar power is another renewable energy source, where the energy from the sun is harnessed in order to produce energy. Since the sun is the sun, heat and energy found in sunlight is in limitless supply so long as the sun is shining, and thus is an excellent renewable energy source. Some regions of the world cannot rely on solar power because their weather and climate are not conducive to its use if long periods of cloudiness are present. Overall however, solar power is a clean energy source that does not contaminate the environment or contribute to global warming, and as such, it is a widely used source of renewable energy.

Wind energy: can be a very reliable renewable energy source if the wind turbines are placed in the right location. The main disadvantages of this form of energy are; sight and noise pollution, and that most designs of wind turbines can be harmful to birds. Wind power is the most usual form of renewable energy. ここに, electricity is generated by blades turning turbines which run a generator. Wind power has a potentially infinite energy supply and a number of advantages to its apply. Wind is a free commodity and is in infinite supply and thus an affordable renewable energy source. Additional, generating wind does not produce toxins or pollutants to the environment and thus helps in the fight against global warming.

Geothermal energy: is a reliable energy source, depending on your location. It is commonly used to provide a source of heating or hot water for households using “ground source heat pumps”, and also can be used as the energy source for power stations in appropriate areas.

Wave and Tidal energy:: Tidal energy can be used to create electricity from the large energy force behind the tides. The main disadvantage of tidal energy is the effect on the surrounding environment, affecting sea life, and shore access. Wave energy is similar to tidal energy, but instead uses the force behind the waves (not the tide) to generate electricity. The cost to sea life is usually less of an issue, as the construction tends to float on the water, and not in the sea. This is a relatively new technology, and in many cases, is still in the research phase.

Biomass energy: is the other conversion of solar energy into bio organism or its residue. Traditionally, biomass energy can be used as direct combustion for cooking or food processing and space heating using crop residues, leaf, and animal dung. The traditional way of using biomass can be lead to deforestation. Modern biomass energy is a sustainable way for electricity generation, heat production and transportation (liquid fuels). It can use the crops and residues using the latest technology, such gasification, バイオガス, biofuels.
