What is energy audit?

Energy Audit is an assessment of current energy consumption in and to find the opportunity to reduce energy consumption of a single building. Energy audit was started in 1973 as a response to energy crisis. As a result of growing understanding of human impact upon global warming and climate change, the interest in energy audits has recently increased. An audit will show the problems that may, when corrected, save significant amounts of money over time.

The scope of energy audit from inspection, survey and analysis of energy flows for energy conservation in a building. It purposes to reduce the amount of energy use into the system without reducing the previous quality. Reducing the energy input does not mean create sacrificing, but still maintain the human comfort, health and safety inside the building. To obtain maximum results, the energy audit gives more prioritize on the units that consume the highest energy and potentially provide a lot of energy savings. The energy audit can be done for home and industry.

A simple energy audit can be performed by yourself, or have a professional energy auditor carry out a more thorough audit. A professional auditor uses a variety of techniques and equipment to determine the energy efficiency of a structure. Thorough audits often use equipment such as blower doors, which measure the extent of leaks in the building envelope, and infrared cameras, which reveal hard-to-detect areas of air infiltration and missing insulation.
